Welcome to the Site of Digital Van

Digital Van is the brainchild of me, a university student from Atlanta, Georgia. Originally Digital Van was meant only as a means of being able to write music and hear it, so that I could write music that I wanted to be able to play later. I have a heavy bias on bass, since that is the main instrument I play, but as you may hear, I also have music that is influenced largely by such bands as Sigur Rós, Nine Inch Nails, and a few other bands I often listen to.

Here is the first album, as soon as I figure out how to get some mp3's up they'll be on the Digital Album page. (look at Albums in the top menu.)

Digital Album is the first attempt at creating digital music, it is all created with Linux Multi-Media Studio, and is an amateurs first attempt.

The tracklist is as follows:

1 - Steel String Sonnet - With just a bass kick drum, a bass, and a dirty guitar leading, this song is what a guitarist might aspire to be able to play, it is basically an insane guitar solo. The tempo is fast and the rhythm chaotic in the fashion of some heavy metal or power metal bands.
2 - Digital Crash - This is a bit more on the side of a rock song with a guitar leading a bass. Though lacking a drumline, the dirty bass's attacks form the quick pace to this song.
3 - A Minor Flaw - One of the first songs ever done, this has a keyboardlike sounding clean guitar and a synth lead that form a mellow tone, with the clean guitar through the verse and a kick bass giving the song a bit more life, and a gritty bass that seems to have lost its low end a bit.
4 - Bliss - A synth lead and a Dirty bass open this song with a playful beat. A sine wave tone melody and synth strings complete the blissfully playful mood through the chorus. This has the first use of percussion other than a kick bass in Digital Album.
5 - Harm - A direct opposite to Bliss, this uses a clean guitar and a synth choir to start a haunting mood. The bass energy is much higher and a piano comes in for the melody and the verse with a much more complete percussion which gives it a mischevious sound.
6 - Intermissing - Somewhere between Bliss and Harm, this uses a clean guitar and a dirty guitar to make a very fast pace, followed up with a fast beat carried on rock percussion.
7 - Metallic Blue - With a very dirty guitar leading a blues inspired ballad, this song has less energy but a driven bass gives it a powerful quality that plays out against an organ to make a nifty tune.
8 - How It all Ends - Hectic and full of power and energy, this song almost has a pre-apocalyptic air to it, hence the name. It has elements of everything before it, and ties with After The End as my favorite from this set.
9 - After The End - This is a sequel to How it all ends. It has a dark tone that is almost despairing, as though following the ending that How It All Ends leads up to, If I had to choose one favorite this one would probably take the cake.
10 - Through the Gates - A bit more on the subtle side, this song is like a view through the end of the previous two songs. From a mystic lead that draws out through the beginning with a misty quality, to the bass solo that drips with confidence, this seems to be the the musical version of a tragic journey.
11 - Digitalized - A strange, twisty, pad-a-plenty song that carries on the air of the previous songs with a very fat constant bass tone and plenty of saw driven synthesizer.
12 - Depth - Rumbling reminiscent to Sigur Rós and a quiet build up to a climax and then a return to the silent rumbling make this song have a quality of depth that draws the album to a close.

Most of the sounds in the album are from LMMS's built in version of ZynAddSubFX and triple oscillator, with Safwan Matni's Prova and General piano VSTi's.
